Child Safety & Safeguarding
Children and young people in our youth programs have a right to be safe, listened to and taken seriously. This statement explains how we work to make that real.
Our commitment
We have zero tolerance for abuse, neglect and harm of any kind. Child safety is considered in how we recruit, train, plan activities, supervise staff and respond to concerns. Every allegation or suspicion is taken seriously and acted on.
Staff screening and training
- Staff working with young people hold current Working with Children Checks.
- Police checks and NDIS screening requirements are verified before commencement.
- Referee checks and role-specific interviews are part of recruitment.
- Induction and ongoing training cover child safety, reporting and boundaries.
- Supervision and observation are part of everyday program delivery.
Empowering children and young people
Young people help shape program activities and are told, in language that makes sense to them, that they can speak up if something feels wrong. We support communication differences, and we welcome an advocate, family member or support person being involved.
Reporting concerns
Staff, families, young people and community members can raise a concern at any time. Any concern about a child's immediate safety is escalated straight away and reported to the relevant authorities as required by law. Concerns can be raised through our feedback and complaints process, by phone, or in person.
Planning for safety
- Activities are risk-assessed before they run, including transport and venues.
- Staffing levels reflect the activity, group and individual support needs.
- Medical, dietary, sensory and communication needs are documented in advance.
- Incidents are recorded, reviewed and used to improve practice.
